Videoing a voki

Following the amazing ILILC4 conference I was sat today trying to put together a list of ideas to try out. As with any good conference there are too many good nuggets to try all at once. However, I seemed to stumble accross a post not linked to ILILC regarding Voki and saving as a video.

This has been something that I have wanted to do for a while and this fitted perfectly with Rachel Jones' session about Google Forms and Flubaroo.

All you need to do is to download CamStudio from Camtasia which is a screen capture tool. Using this software you set the recording position to be over your Voki then play your presentation. The only tricky bit is that you have to use a microphone to record the audio.

Read the text thoroughly before starting to analyse and extracting key information .

Things to look for to begin piecing together the meaning.

·         Familiar words

·         Guessable through context
·         Cognates
·         Unfamiliar words

·         Categorise verbs (infinitives) , tenses, nouns, adjectives, intensifiers, prepositions.

Things to look out for to help you

Prefixes

re / de / man / ob / con TENER
im / re / com / sup / o PONER

Words which start with ES (espacio, estación)

Stem changing nouns

E-ie (dientes)
O-ue (muelas)

Suffixes

Mente = ly

Ado = ed
Ión = tion
Dad = ity

Using Voki is something that has been on our department agenda for a few years now and although a few of us have used it in some classes, we are yet to get everyone on board in maximising its capabilities.
